Apr 19, 2023

April 19, 2023 - /PressAdvantage/ - PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia Tree Service Experts, a leading tree care company in Pennsylvania, has embarked on an ambitious project to uncover the hidden world of tree fungi and their various benefits for trees and the environment. In addition, the company is committed to enhancing public awareness about fungi's crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and promoting sustainable tree care practices.

Clair Yars, CEO of Philadelphia Tree Service Experts, highlights the importance of understanding tree fungi: "Fungi play an essential role in breaking down organic matter, recycling nutrients, and forming beneficial relationships with trees. By increasing our knowledge of the various types of fungi, their functions, and their interactions with trees, we can better understand the complex world of trees and develop more effective tree care strategies."

The project, led by the company's team of certified arborists and mycologists, focuses on identifying and documenting different fungi species found in the Philadelphia area and understanding their ecological roles and potential benefits. In addition, the researchers will closely examine the interactions between fungi and tree roots, known as mycorrhizal relationships, which help trees absorb nutrients and water more efficiently.

Yars explains the significance of these relationships: "Mycorrhizal fungi form a mutually beneficial association with tree roots, allowing them to access essential nutrients and water while receiving carbohydrates from the tree. This symbiotic relationship is vital for the health of trees and contributes to their ability to withstand stress, disease, and environmental challenges."

As part of the project, Philadelphia Tree Service Experts will also investigate the potential uses of tree fungi in various industries, such as agriculture, medicine, and bioremediation. For example, some fungi species are known to produce enzymes and bioactive compounds with potential applications in these fields, opening up exciting possibilities for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

Yars shares her vision for the future applications of tree fungi: "As we continue to uncover the hidden potential of tree fungi, we hope to contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for some of the pressing challenges we face today, such as food security, public health, and environmental pollution."

Philadelphia Tree Service Experts plans to organize workshops, seminars, and exhibitions to promote public engagement and education, showcasing the fascinating world of tree fungi and their benefits. The company aims to foster a greater appreciation for the complex relationships between trees, fungi, and the environment among the general public and inspire more sustainable tree care practices.

Yars highlights the importance of public engagement: "We believe that raising public awareness about the intricate relationships between trees, fungi, and the environment is critical to fostering a sense of responsibility towards our urban forests and encouraging more sustainable tree care practices. We hope to inspire a new generation of tree care professionals and environmental stewards through our educational initiatives."

Philadelphia Tree Service Experts is dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of trees in the community and is committed to advancing scientific knowledge and sustainable practices in the tree care industry. For its second year, recreational figure skating competition SM Skating Halloween Cup, hosted several international participants for the first time, making the local contest into an international meet. “So this is the second year we hosted the Halloween Cup. This year, the difference is it's an international competition. The first year that we hosted it we had over 100 participants, but this year almost 180 participants,” explained Nikki Cheng, president of the Philippine Skating Union. More than 180 figure skaters from the Philippines, Mongolia, Thailand, and the United States, participated in the event, which was held from October 16 to 18 at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Wearing various costumes, from Disney princesses to K-pop idols, the young skaters showcased their skating skills and fun routines. For the first, the competition also joins the Ice Skating Institute Asia (ISIAsia) Championship Series. According to the competition, the event was not just a “thrilling Halloween spectacle” but it “champions SM Active's mission to make sports accessible, nurture young talent, and inspire more Filipinos to embrace an active lifestyle”. “We feel that it is very important for its contribution to grassroots development. We see that the sport is continually growing. In this event we get to discover who are the ones that we would bring into the national developmental [program]. Letran edges San Sebastian, keeps Stags winless in NCAA

MANILA, Philippines — Colegio de San Juan de Letran denied San Sebastian College-Recoletos a chance to crack into the win column, escaping with a 91-89 victory in the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament on Friday afternoon at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City. The Knights improved to 7-3 and remained atop Group B, while the Golden Stags dropped to 0-10. Unlike their first-round meeting, which Letran dominated 99-62, the Knights were forced to work much harder in the rematch. With Letran leading 86-83 and 1:04 remaining in the game, Vincent Segovia drained a fadeaway jumper and Christian Ricio followed with a layup to give San Sebastian an 87-86 edge. Aaron Buensalida immediately answered with a layup of his own with 38 seconds remaining, and Nathaniel Montecillo converted both free throws to put Letran back in front, 89-87. Niel Castro then tied the game at 89-all with a jumper with seven seconds left. But Letran head coach Allen Ricardo drew up a final play for Jimboy Estrada, who knocked down a jumper with two seconds remaining to seal the 91-89 win. “Of course, during the dying seconds of the game, you go to your go-to guy. I trusted Jimboy and he delivered,” Ricardo said. “We had lapses in the game. San Sebastian also improved its transition threes, and we became a bit lousy. So in those final seconds, we went to Jimboy.” Chad Gammad led Letran with 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Buensalida stepped up in the absence of veteran Kevin Santos, finishing with 21 points and six rebounds. Estrada added 14 points, while Froilan Reyes chipped in 13. Caesleyh Bacani paced San Sebastian with 24 points, while John Ynot and Segovia contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.
